Section 376 IPC prescribed punishment for rape: rigorous imprisonment of not less than 10 years, extendable to imprisonment for life, and fine, with aggravated categories carrying higher minimums.
BNS Section 64 retains the punishment framework: rigorous imprisonment of 10 years to life, and fine, with aggravated forms (including offences by police, public servants, armed forces, etc.) dealt with in the same and following sections.
Carried over substantially unchanged; renumbered from IPC 376 to BNS 64, with related aggravated offences renumbered to BNS 65–71.
