Section 354 IPC punished assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, or knowing it likely to do so, with imprisonment of 1 to 5 years and fine.
BNS Section 74 retains the offence and punishment: imprisonment of not less than 1 year, extendable to 5 years, and fine.
Carried over substantially unchanged; renumbered from IPC 354 to BNS 74 and placed in the chapter on offences against women and children.
