● Retained in BNS
Forging a valuable security, a will, or an authority to transfer money or property carries life imprisonment or up to 10 years' imprisonment plus fine under BNS Section 338, unchanged from IPC 467.
Section 467 IPC punished forging a document purporting to be a valuable security, a will, an authority to adopt a son, or an authority to transfer, receive or acquit payment of money, movable property or valuable security, with imprisonment for life, or imprisonment of either description up to 10 years, and fine.
BNS Section 338 reproduces the offence verbatim, word for word -- no substantive change. Unlike its sibling Section 337 (old IPC 466, above), BNS 338 itself was not extended to expressly cover electronic records; that extension lives in the neighbouring BNS 339 (forged-document possession) instead.
